Vein & Vascularity Treatments

Harnessing the Power of Light to Treat Unsightly Veins*

What Are Unsightly Veins?
Doctors often refer to unsightly veins as benign vascular lesions. These lesions appear on the surface of the skin as splotches, dots, bulges and spider shapes. They can show up in a variety of colors ranging from red to purple to brown. Sometimes they are caused by weakness in the walls or valves of veins, causing blood to stagnate rather than be circulated. Some vascular lesions are so tiny that they are not visible under normal conditions, and others are quite prominent.

Treatment Options:*

Sclerotherapy*

sclerotherapySclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to reduce spider and reticular veins. It involves an injection of a solution (generally a salt solution) directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that fades from view. Sclerotherapy is a proven procedure that has been in use since the 1930s.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), YAG Laser and Laser Genesis*

Breakthrough technology provides non-invasive, gentle treatments for spider veins as well as facial blood vessels. One technology utilizes a YAG laser to offer effective and long-lasting results for a range of benign vascular lesions. YAG Laser systems can selectively heat and destroy different sized blood vessels at depths below the skin’s surface with excellent results.  By delivering the laser light in highly focused pulses, the YAG computer-controlled system allows the skin and healthy surrounding tissues to cool down, avoiding thermal damage. Pain during treatment and side effects afterward are greatly reduced. Most patients can immediately return to their normal routines.

Another option for superficial vascularity is IPL or Intense Pulsed Light.  Using a broadband light, the IPL treatment covers a larger area with each pulse allowing us to treat the entire face in approximately 30 minutes. IPL is a medical grade, non-invasive light based device designed to combat age spots, freckles, skin redness, tiny veins and sun damage. The heating of the abnormal red and brown pigment breaks it down into smaller particles which are then reduced by body’s own immune cycle. For permanently-dilated, tiny blood vessels (telangiectasia) and related rosacea, this light therapy selectively destroys the abnormal blood vessels that cause the problem, allowing thicker-walled micro-vessels to be formed.
